 Awakening

I awaken to the sound of the entire house shaking! Is it an earthquake? What do I even do during earthquakes?!

"Mom?! Dad?!"

I dash out of my room, and immediately find... Georgie?!

"I thought you were at college?!"

"Yeah, I thought so too!"

She runs back inside, leaving me alone out here.

While I'm anxiously waiting for her and everyone else to get back, I can't help but look around to see the total state that all the other houses are in. They were in a weird hourglass-like figure, like some big hand came down from the sky and pinched the middle of each of the houses, leaving two bulbous parts of the house connected by one skinny, crushed vertical section.

Of course, the sky is still the most distracting part. It's flashing so much I feel like anyone with epilepsy walking around outside right now would be subject to... death? Look, it's a stressful situation, I can't think of anything clever right now!

I hear a deafening "crash" behind me! I turn around to see the worst case scenario! The second floor of the house has fallen onto itself, leaving only the first floor! But... everyone else's rooms are...

My first thought was to immediately run up to them and try and help them. But... What help would I bring? I'm not strong enough to... No. That doesn't matter. If there's even a 5% chance that I can help them, then I have to do it!

I run back up the stairs, and start shifting through the rubble on the top floor.

Then... that's when I see it. Paisley under Georgie's body, which is being crushed by debris!

"Georgie, Paisley! Are you okay?!"

"I'm... holding up."

"What's happening?!" Paisley cries!

Suddenly, another layer of wreckage falls onto Georgie's back!

"Georgie!"

I go help her with the debris, but suddenly a small spark of light comes out from where she's being crushed! I instinctually stand back, since seeing sparks like that reminds me of the time I shocked myself back in 7th grade.

A moment later, another flash of light emanating not from the space in between Georgie's back and the debris, but directly from her! Neon shapes of various different colors start to surround her body! It's like some sort of... force field? Georgie then just... stands up, even without using her hands to push the rubble out of the way.

"What... Did you just do?" Paisley asks.

Georgie waits a second before she responds.

"Psynesis..."

Just as she said that, Mom and Dad manage to bring themselves out of a different patch of rubble.

"Oh thank God, you kids are okay!" Mom says, just after letting herself have a sigh of relief.

"We need to leave the house, now." Dad commands.

Sure enough, we all manage to get out of the house well before everything manages to collapse.

"I'm just going to take a second to repeat myself. What's happening?!"

I look around to see the level of absolute destruction across the city. We lived on a big hill, so we have a really great vantage point for nearly the entire city. With that being said, basically every single building was completely annihilated! Most being reduced to rubble, some being even pulverized into dust!

"Are we... going to be okay?"

Everyone goes silent in response. We're not the type of family to lie to someone just to make their day feel better, since we always felt there were other ways to cheer someone up, while acknowledging whatever went wrong. But now...?

"We have each other. That's all that matters."

I...

"Yeah."

"I disagree."

"Georgie?"

"Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we're all here together. We're one of the most important things we can have. But it's not the only thing."

"She's right. We need some way to get food and water."

"I wasn't actually talking about that either, although that's definitely the most important thing right now."

What's she talking about then?

"This world, as we know it, is ending. I can feel it. But I don't think we're going to die in the process. If that's true... then we have the power to make a new world. Because let's be honest, the world we just left... totally sucked."

We're all in silence. None of us were ready for her to get all philosophical on us. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, Georgie is definitely the type to talk about this kind of stuff. I guess I just wasn't expecting her to say this stuff right out of the gate.

"I mean, really! Everyone in power didn't care about anyone below them. We were constantly given the ideal to be selfless and to help anyone who needed help, but everyone who needed to do that was too lazy to. But now, we have the power! Finally, we can live up to that ideal that we were constantly given through books and cartoons."

I'm... not sure what to say. I just feel strangely... comforted that the world is ending now. Not sure how she managed to pull that off.

"So, our #1 priority is to get everyone food and water, after that is to stay together, as a family."

""-and after that, we'll raise the new world, just like how you two raised us."

"Sounds like a plan!"

"Yeah."

We all come on in for one big group hug, before heading out to find some resources.

...It looks like crazy drugged up "weather" is dying down, too. I have a good feeling about this!
