1-1 Thoughts

This is a blog post talking about 1-1 (Arc 1’s Chapter 1), if you haven’t read it yet, do so here If you want to give criticisms for this section of the story, you will be able to post in the comments here!

This chapter is pretty slow. It’s mostly meant to introduce the two main characters and elaborate on what in happening/has happened in the world. A lot of this first arc is going to be playing catch up like that. I almost want to call this entire arc the prologue arc, and merge it with the first two chapters, but I feel like what would eventually be like a 10+ chapter prologue arc might turn off some people. The point of the prologue arc is to have a very short introduction on what I’m going to be focusing on in the this series.

Now, the other thing I’m going to talk about is the purpose of Isaac’s amnesia. Despite being the protagonist of the story, I know Isaac is likely going to end up being one of the more boring characters, especially when you compare him to some of the later side characters and villains. The point of him having amnesia is to make him a temporary Everyman character, and when he gets his memories back (which won’t be at like, the final arc of the story or anything, so don’t worry) he’ll become a more multifaceted character. That is to say that his original role as “Person with less information that I can give natural exposition to” won’t fade, but that information in the future will likely only be held by specific characters, because I don’t want to make him look like an idiot.

Basically, the story is about a lot more than “Generic white boy twink wants to get his (probably boring) memories back.”

Prologue Arc Thoughts

This is a blog post talking about the Prologue Arc, so if you haven’t read it yet, click here! I made this so that I can talk a little about how I wrote these two chapters, and also so that anyone who wants to give criticisms for this section of the story will be able to post in the comments here!

Now, anyone who’s familiar enough with Square space should know that in order to have multiple fonts in one paragraph like what I did in Chapter 2, knows that I had to learn a bit of HTML. I only recently learned (like as I was writing this blog post) how to add those code blocks into blog posts, allowing me to post the chapters in a blog format, allowing you guys to comment directly on the chapter parts.

So now I’m sitting here, already uploaded 6 full chapters, with a total of 11 unique chapter parts painstakingly reformed into HTML code. Now, I could copy-paste all those code blocks and reformat all of those pages into blog posts, but then I couldn’t get the unique links at the top right of each chapter part, and I would have to rework basically every single link that leads to any of the chapter parts, or the arc pages.
So, yeah, not doing that. Maybe in the future I’ll set it up so you guys can comment directly on the chapter parts, for a more seamless experience.

I feel like I did well enough in introducing what I felt was necessary to know, but to also show off the type of appeal my story is going for. Funnily enough, the 2nd chapter was actually going to be the only chapter in the prologue, but then I realized that how Psynesis came into being, and a description of how the power system was found and utilized wasn’t explained in the exposition dump of 1-4 (Arc 1 Chapter 4). I decided that it would be strange for those things to be told in those chapter parts (and honestly they were already completely full of exposition anyway) so I decided to make 0-2, well, 0-2 rather than 0-1, with me creating a new 0-1 “Psynesis.” Honestly, I think it was a pretty good call. Especially making that new chapter 0-1, because I could then transition into the world a little better with that final line. How did you all think of the two introductory chapters?
