Hearing the shot of the gun instinctually started his flight or fight reflexes. The pain of the bullet digging into his leg muscles made him choose flight, despite the difficulty of doing so.
He had been walking onto the sidewalk, and since he was near the corner at the edge of an alleyway, he dived in without really thinking. It was at this point, when Isaac managed to get a grip on the empty space of a wall that used to have a brick in it, that he began to regain a comprehensible stream of consciousness.
There's a metal fence with a black cloth on the other side of it. The fence is a chain link type, so that makes it easier to climb. It's about 10 meters away, but there's a dumpster on to the left of me, leaning up against the parallel wall, so if I can dive behind that...
He missed his 2nd shot just as I was thinking to myself. Damnit, no time for thinking, just go! Since there's a plastic trash can in front of me...
I put my other hand on the trash can, and slide over the top. I don't take the landing well, since I only have one functional leg.
Isaac's hope that there was enough trash inside the trashcan to block the next bullet was falsely placed, with alarms in his head starting to go off after another bullet sunk into the flesh of his back! Again, without thought, Isaac put all the energy he could into his right leg, and dove into cover behind the dumpster, with the enemy missing another shot from his pistol as he dove!
Damnit... there's no way I can climb that without getting shot again! I have to make him reload, how many shots does he have left? It shouldn't be much, since I saw he was carrying a revolver. It's likely one or two shots. Damnit... he's getting closer...
In that moment, Isaac saw a half filled bottle of whiskey, lying up against the dumpster. As he heard the enemy approaching him, he could hear him say something under his breath.
"Gotta make this shot count..."
As Issac heard that, his body transformed. It's only purpose was to hit the enemy with this bottle in the face, in order to blind him, and make him waste his last shot! Luckily for Isaac...
He was left handed.
Now!
I manage to smash that bastard's face in with this bottle! I immediately pivot to grab the fence, and put all of my strength into my arms as I desperately climb the fence, as I hear him miss his final shot, as I make it over the fence, and fall to the ground!
Seriously, I've never been so happy I took such a big fall before!
"You think... you're safe?" he coughs.
Hell yeah I do! But I'm not gonna make any noise, so that you can't figure out where I am. Unfortunately, there's another chain link fence before the alleyway ends, with a pile of bricks sitting next to it, so I could step on it and climb out more easily. Ah! There's a door, with a window next to it. I can escape!
"Five shots. Firing one clip with the intent to kill is the condition to activate my ability. I'm glad I was able to get a good view of you in time."
Ability?
"Your right leg is next."
A moment later, I hear the deafening sound of gunfire... Along with the unbearable pain of a bullet digging into, and then fly out of my right leg! I instinctively scream out in pain.
I gaze over to see the bullet rolling across the ground. It's... made of rubber?
"Was that enough to disable your right leg? I imagine it was. Your arms will be next."
Again, the enemy fired two more shots. Luckily for Isaac, he noticed what was happening! Somehow, he was bouncing them off the bottom of the upper floor window sills from one of the buildings next to him. Even if the rest of the second floor must have been destroyed ages ago.
He yelps in pain again as the next two bullets sink into his shoulders! Isaac, desperately looking for an escape, turns his head towards the window next to the door. There, he sees a girl looking out from the window. As Isaac is hoping, praying for some kind of escape in the form of this girl, she simply silently puts her finger on her lips, and disappears into the darkness.
Why?
Again, questions started to fill Isaac's mind. How is he able to bounce those bullets so accurately? What does he mean by "Ability"? Why didn't that girl help me? Am I going to die? These intense questions, along with the ones he was asking himself only a minute ago, made Isaac tired and frustrated. Then, with his complete willpower, his voice rang throughout his head with one simple thought.
I just wanted to live a simple life.
It only took one second for Isaac to be transformed by this thought. A transformation which would ultimately save his life.
